What has greater consumer awareness – South Africa, Cape Town, Cape Peninsula, Cape Point, Noordhoek or a proprietary name like “Isliedh”? Cape Point Vineyards aren’t taking any chances and have thrown pretty much everything into the mix. Tasting notes and ratings for the current releases as follows:

Cape Point Vineyards Cape Town Sauvignon Blanc 2017
Price: R110
W.O. Cape Town. 50% own grapes and 50% from Durbanville. Matured for three months on the lees in tank. A hint of reduction before lime, white peach and fynbos on the nose. The palate is relatively lean yet intensely flavoured with racy acidity and a salty finish.

Editor’s rating: 90/100.

Cape Point Vineyards Noordhoek Sauvignon Blanc 2017
Price: R135
W.O. Cape Town.  100% own fruit. Includes 3% wooded Semillon. Matured for eight months on the lees. Top notes of flowers and fynbos before naartjie and apple. Rich and smooth textured with nicely coated acidity.

Editor’s rating: 91/100.

Cape Point Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc Reserve 2016

A belter.

Cape Point Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc Reserve 2016
Price: R175
W.O. Cape Peninsula.  Includes 9% Semillon. Matured for 15 months in older 600-litre barrels. The nose shows white peach, naartjie and blackcurrant with a touch of fennel in the background. The palate has a weightless intensity about it – great fruit concentration and nicely coated acidity before a savoury finish. Moves really well in the mouth and has a real elegance about it.

Editor’s rating: 94/100.
