Jordan Assyrtiko 2023

Wine grape Assyrtiko is associated with the Greek island of Santorini, where the growing season is hot, dry and windy. Could it work here? The likes of Andrea and Chris Mullineux are inclined to think so, as is Gary Jordan of the eponymous winery in Stellenbosch.
The Jordan 2023 is nothing if not arresting. The nose shows citrus, perhaps a hint of petrol, floral perfume and fynbos. The palate has a dense core of fruit and absolutely ripping acidity, the finish long and pithy (alc: 13.5%). It’s tightly wound and wonderfully focused and suggests that this variety could become more commonplace soon. Price: R275 a bottle.
CE’s rating: 93/100.

Where can you buy Jordan’s Assyrtiko? Apparently not available ex-cellar…

Hi Mike, The wine was shown a the farm’s annual harvest lunch for trade and media. I’m advised that stock was allocated to boutique wine shops and restaurants in both Cape Town and Gauteng – it still seems to be on the winelist at Waterfront restaurant Den Anker.
