Neil Ellis Groenekloof Shiraz 2013
By Christian Eedes, 6 January 2016
The Groenekloof Shiraz 2013 from Neil Ellis offers super quality relative to price. Grapes from dryland bush vines, the wine was matured for 17 months in a combination of new, second-fill and older French barrels. Approximate retail price: R100 a bottle.
It shows great typicity with notes of red and black fruit, slight reduction, spice and a touch of fynbos on the nose. The palate is medium bodied and balanced – good freshness and fine tannins, the finish nicely dry. The overall unfussiness of the wine is very much to its favour.
#WinemagRating: 88/100.
