Viticulturist André Rousseau now has a full-time gig at Paarl property Rhebokskloof but he originally made a name for himself at Constantia Uitsi, where he was involved in the production of the 2002 Semillon Reserve, which won John Loubser who was then at Steenberg the Diners Club Winemaker of the Year Award in 2003.

Grace 2020 as made under Rousseau’s own label again features Constantia grapes, this being a blend of 86% Sauvignon Blanc and 14% barrel-fermented Semillon. The nose shows lime, lemon, grapefruit, fresh herbs and a hint of white asparagus while the palate is full and relatively thick textured offset by punchy acidity, the finish nicely savoury. Well balanced, unshowy, and rewarding. Price: R110 a bottle.

CE’s rating: 92/100.
