Craven new releases

By , 21 October 2022

2022 was the first vintage that Mick and Janine Craven processed entirely in their own cellar situated in Stellenbosch Agri-Park, permanent premises seemingly contributing to even more assured wines if the first two releases below are anything to go by.

Craven Pinot Gris 2022
Price: R245
Six days of skin contact before six months of maturation in concrete “squares”. Rose, strawberry, red cherry, orange, fynbos and herbs while the palate has good fruit concentration, bright acidity and some light grip to the finish – a little more weight than previous vintages though not at the expense of vibrancy. Combines refreshment with interest to great effect.

CE’s rating: 92/100.

Craven Cinsaut 2022
Price: R245
Grapes from a Faure vineyard on granite. Maturation as above. The nose shows some floral perfume before cherry and plum plus subtle notes of earth and spice. Pure fruit, snappy acidity and chalky tannins, the finish nicely dry. Not without density although alcohol is just 12%.

CE’s rating: 92/100.
